The Liverpool and Hackney Empires are both quite large...

well thats in terms of land, but then modern empire had greater capabilities for going further, plus population growth etc.

i thin special recognisiton should be given to the achaemenid empire because in 500bc it is estimated they were 'in control' of around 50% of the worlds population. this compares with 23% for the british empire at its peak.

Thank you. The Mongolian empire is often underestimated. It was huge considering it relied so much on the horse. The British empire is unlikely to be surpassed, though, especially in matters of influence through the English language and the spawning of a whole gammit of top tier nations compounding that influence still further: USA, Australia/New Zealand, Canada, India/Pakistan regions, and eventually a more successful ex-colonial Africa, .. the list goes on and on. As for the Hackney and Liverpool empires, well .. their reputation is already resounding on other planets ! No mere earthly empire can top that !

Thanks also for the info re the Achaemenids. Truly impressive. Whether their influence can be measured on the same playing field as empire GB is debatable. Times so different then.
