i want to find out the maiden name of my great , grandmother . would i be able to find out only by buying a copy of a marriage certificate, or is there another way, many thanks.
I started about 5 years ago and find it fascinating.....it's all been done from the internet so far but have got to the stage where I have to go out and about....
I get about 2 days per year where I am accompanied on my 'dead relative huntings' with good grace...........the rest of the time is full of dark mutterings and harumphings.........:o)
My late father was a shetlander so my sister and I are hoping to go there later this year...............we've never been and he still has a sister there who is about 90..........
if you went on ancestry.co.uk and did a search for your grandmothers childrens birth, the entry often contains the mothers maiden name, I have found a few that way
you could also search for their marriage and that will give you her maiden name
I dont know anything about all this, but would love to trace my family tree, do you have to pay for every search you make when looking on-line for certificates....if so is it expensive?
