tattoos

Hi guys, I am considering having a tattoo done of my sons name in maybe Chinese or Japanese lettering. Anyone know any good sites where I can get a translation of his name (Oliver) as I am worried about ending up with "chicken chow mein" or something tattooed on me forever!!

Does anyone have any suggestions or other types of lettering or language I could use? Cheers!

I have a chinese symbol tattoo but really I think they're a bit outdated now.  My bf and I both have tattoos in sanskrit and I think they look a lot nicer.  I found this site which transaltes for about a fiver a time:

I did use a free sanskrit translator at the time I had mine but that was a few years ago and I can't find it now.  If I do come across it I'll post the link.

Oliver can be written  奧利佛

It's pronounced 'Ow-Li-Foh' in Mandarin and which sounds nothing like 'Oliver' because there's no exact O character and instead of a 'V' the Chinese use 'W' or 'F'. It doesn't have a meaning as such as these three symbols are used as phonetic characters.

It's your body but if you believe people will think a foreign wording tattoo will you look deep and will help start lots of interesting conversations please think again. They're so tacky in my eyes.

HI Jooleebobs, I loved your last posting it made me titter, well said!!!  I have 4 small tattoos, & i dont class my self as a "CHAV"!!!.

 

It irritates me too when you see inane answers ( i dont mind silly daft ones ) but the type you got, i agree, haven't some people got nothing else better to do. Why bother to post an answer if you have nothing constructive to say.  :-)

Snoteater has nothing better to do no!  However, depending on WHERE you want the tatoo to be, and whether you are Oliver's Mum or his Dad, you may want to conisder that other people may have similarly narrow views.  Whilst it would be a shame to let others dictate your behaviour, i just think it's worth considering whether this could ever effect your career in anyway.  If it's the sort of thing that's in a more intimate place - write what you like and be happy with it! :-)

You won't like it, but my first thought was "that sounds a bit David Beckham 5 years ago to me".  I'm just trying to point out that a tatoo can get you judged for all the WRONG reasons and in the wrong ways!

For something as personal as a tatoo though, i think you should just get something that really means something to you, about your son.  Short of a big smiley face - that WOULD look silly! :-p :-D
