Is it legal for a 13 yr old boy not to have a bedroom

My ex has let a student rent my sons bedroom. he has to sleep on the sofa, most of his things have been stuck in the loft. What i'm trying to find out is, can she do this legally or is there a way i can make her give him his room back? Thank you for any advice.

However, I find this pretty abhorent behaviour towards your son by his mother, although maybe if your ex needs the money to keep a rof over the head of your son maybe you could offer some/some more maintenance?

Have you asked her why she has done this or gone on the word of your son?

There is no legal requirement to provide a room ...

... otherwise, people in small flats could be legally banned from having children.

But, as pink says ... it a terrible way to treat the poor child.

The reason she does it is for money, she has been on holiday to Turkey, while the kids stopped with me, she has got a 50 inch tv. Im taking the kids on holiday with my wife and her 3 kids to Bridlington. I pay half towards clothes, trips and things like that.

So, she is in debt then?

You pay half of everything materialistic (clothes, school trips etc) but what about maintenance for daily household living? I don't mean to sound mean, but I am wondering if you pay anything towards daily living costs? Maybe that is why she has had to take in a student/lodger? If perhaps, you increased any weekly maintenance, he can have his room back. I know it's probably not just as easy as that, but it may help

What does your ex say about this? I can see that having 3 other children living with you may mean it would be a tight squeeze with your son there also.

I am actually quite shocked his mum can do this TBH - but as previously written there is no law to say he cannot sleep on a sofa, sorry
