my hotpoint wd440 washing machine trips out the electric in my house when it is in any of it's spin modes?

Sounds like the brushes in the motor need replacing. This happened to mine too so I had to call the engineer out.

If it's tripping the RCD device in your house then there is a problem with the machine and the RCD is tripping due to a small amount of current/voltage going to earth, I would have a machine repair bloke round just to check it out....

Thanks for the answers - we had a repair guy around in the end, and it was a part from the tumble dryer which was earthing incorrectly. We're now waiting for the part......
