The Canary Islands are within the EU (although they count as 'non-EU' when it comes to what you're allowed to bring back, without paying duty, due to their special tax status). EU laws oblige all member countries to accept EU passports (and national ID cards) right up until the end of their nominal validity. You could arrive in Tenerife with only one second left on your passport and still have an automatic right to enter.
