Im currently living in a 3 bedroom council house with my partner and our 4 kids, my youngest is ready to go into his own room but the problem s that there's no where to put him, the oldest has his own room ( which is only a box room) and the 2 girls share there own room. We have applied to local housing associations to ask for a house with 4 rooms but we have been told we do not qualify for help with housing.. Can anyone give any imformation that will help us or point us in the right direction to get the help we need

why not get a list of housing associations in your area and apply to go on their waiting lists.

www.rightmove.co.uk is good for searching for properties to rent.
rent your own place.
The council only has limited amount of houses for those in need. Your son could have your room and you sleep in lounge if needs be. Having his own room is not a prioity.
Or squeeze a double bed in the dining room or smallest bedroom for you and let the boys have your bedroom.

Could you perhaps save up a deposit and purchase a 4 bedroom property. I'm not sure if there is much in the way of council stock of 4 bedroom properties.
Like others have said, perhaps renting on the open market and as many people do, apply for Housing Benefit to help towards the rent. Many private Landlords do let their properties to the council.

4 bed properties are extremely rare, I live in birmingham which has the largest council stock in the country and there are virtually no available properties, the waiting list is 13,000. my neighbour has 10 people living in his house, he has been an urgent case on the waiting list for 5 years with no offers (he can only be offered 4 bed properties)
I think private renting is your only hope, you are lucky in that you have a 3 bed property.

Could you put the girls in bunk beds in the smallest room? Or buy one of those beds that look like a single bed but have another bed that's stored underneath the single to make space for play etc during the day and put the boys in together in the largest room - assuming the youngest will be going in a cot / cotbed and a single bed for your other son.
You will find a solution and it's ok for them to share, not everyone can afford to have a room per child.

I don't know much about the exchange lists that Councils have, but I'd think it'd be best to see if you can get on that.
I just know that when I was a child, a couple in the next village had 9 children and lived in a 3-bed Council house. Goodness knows how they managed, but they did, and no one seemed bothered about over-crowding in those days, but best of luck to you.

trt, it's an urban myth that there is a law about children sharing bedrooms from a certain age.
Stevie619, I know it may seem a little crowded but there are many households where kids have to share rooms. This is the case in both the private housing and council housing sectors. I had to share with 2 brothers using bunk beds plus a sleeping bag on the floor until we were 22,20 and 18, at which point 2 of us left home!!
There is some good advice on here though, and I hope you can sort something out in time.
