The good news is that for most of the year its quite managable its just when the coats are growing out due to weather changes etc it gets really bad,Max my long haired GSD is just going thru the "big clump" stage. I would also recommend a Miele cat & dog vacuum, it's the best I've come across for lifting dog hairs from a carpet
I have long haired double coated dogs, who blow their coat once a year, and bits in between. I find that when they are having their annual moult, I bath them, and get a dog blaster on them which loosens and blows out all the lose hair, getting the skin ready for a fresh wardrobe. When you have got rid of all the old coat, try a coat feed like Yumega, or Royal Jelly (the latter from Groomers.online).

Hi marali:
The bottom line is that all dogs moult (or shed) at least twice a year (spring+autumn), some can seem to shed almost non stop.
As paddywak rightly says, such a type as you have is more likely to shed most of the year round.
There are no magical solutions, such thing as specific lotions etc which can in any way prevent it. You're simply wasting your money, unless you're intentions are to cart your dog around to show it off for no better reason than personal vanity. No, basically it's all down to good old fashioned elbow grease.
Far better to carry on as you are, or if it really gets out of hand there are other things like a shedding blade (use very carefully) or an undercoat rake for the likes of dead fur.
Give your vet's a ring (if you haven't already done so), and I'm sure they can advise you further. Best of luck.

Paraffin, you really are becoming a pain. Why do you have to bring in carting dogs round the country for personal vanity to this thread. Apart from being absolute *rap, it is your opinion, so keep it to yourself.
Marali, the information 'P' gave is also incorrect, not ALL dogs moult, and when they do, it can be determined by age. For example, in my long coated breed, they tend to have their first drop (moult) between the age of 14 - 26 months when they will drop their puppy coat. A bitch will then drop around four months after her heat cycle, and a dog, once a year thereafter, which is not necessarily in the summer.
I have also found Yumega to be an excellent additive to the dogs diet, and if you view the Yumega site and the Dog press, you will see it is very popular, not only with people that show their dogs.
The Furminator has had some good reports on short coated breeds, but dont go through all long coated breeds coats.

It is most unfortunate that your thread has been hijacked by a hysterical and unwarranted attack made on me by another poster.
It is an irrefutable fact that dogs tend to shed the year round. Anyone whose dog has the freedom of their house will have to vaccuum their hairs off carpets etc on a daily basis, not just once in a while.
Those who have a number of dogs kept not as pets but as a business venture will invariably treat them accordingly and not as family members. Such unfortunate animals will therefore not have the run of the house, therefore shedding their coats in their pens, kennels etc, thereby eradicating the need to dispose of their deposits of hair from the carpets in the house.
And I notice that even my biggest critic cannot give any guarantees of effectiveness about these expensive "coat feeds" which will in no way help to eradicate shedding and which will only serve to drain your financial resources.
I sincerely hope that the rudeness of one poster has not put you off having a dog, with all the attendant pleasures, and responsibilities, it brings. The best of luck.

Marali, I trust you havnt found the information I have given you as rude, but I felt the need to put right the information given by another poster when it was suggested that all dogs moult all year round, and who obviously has fairly limited experience on the subject. My dogs are all kept in the house as family pets and I can give you my own personal guarantee that Yumega has reduced moulting, but obviously what works for some, may not work for others. Good luck.
