Yesterday I downloaded a vehicle workshop manual from the internet. The manual was in the form of an .iso file and I'd like to convert it to a format that I can read on a CD.

I've got Nero 9, so I thought I'd ask Nero to burn the .iso file as a "data cd". After the process finished, I opened the disc to check what was on it. It has thirteen folders, containing loads of different file types such as .cab, .hdr, .bin, .rar plus various .exe files. In addition, the disc has various other files such as .BAT, .DLL, .BIN and .DBG contained on it which are not in the folders.

I've haven't got a clue about how I'm supposed to read this disc as a manual. I've tried installing off one of the .exe files, but the only thing's it's done is to install something called a "checksheet generator" on the desktop and open a photograph of a garage reception area.

I've tried looking on the internet and read about "mounting" discs etc but I'm very confused and uncertain what to do next. There's simply no indication on the disc about how to read its contents onscreen.

Could someone please help a girl out? I'd be ever so grateful!

Thank you.

Hi Jadyn
Type in "iso file extractor" into your search engine and you should be able to download free software to burn the cd.
ISO files are an image of a CD and are meant to be burnt back onto a CD to be used.

Download this, use it to make a CD from the image.

Alternatively.........

Right click the .iso file and just extract it like any other zip/rar file. This will at least enable you to see exactly what kind of files are stored within it. You may find that the bits you are really interested in are just images/video's in which case you can just burn them to a disc as normal.

It depends on the kind on 'Manual' really, interactive ones will need to be properly burnt to CD in order for them to work as a CD manual, for this you will, as already mentioned, need to burn the ISO image.....ie in nero choose to burn an image file.

If you don't actually need the manual to be used as originally intended but just want to view the info contained within it then just extract it to a folder. You can then view any images or video using your normal image/video viewer software.

Regards.

Thanks all.

ChuckFickens, I downloaded freeisoburner, but it does exactly the same as Nero in that it writes the thirteen folders and other stuff to the CD. The contents of the Nero disc and the isoburner disc are identical.

Mr-Tom, I did as you suggested and extracted via Winrar. the files were extracted to a new folder called "Ford Manual" in my downloads folder. However, the contents of the folder are exactly the same as the discs, so I still can't open/read them.

I've noticed there are loads of .ARC files in the folders, but I'm unable to find anything to open them.

Thanks again.

There
the clue is in the fact that 3 different progs have shown the same contents .... that's what's on the disc

Mininova. It was a Ford Focus workshop manual.

Is there anything out there that will open these arc/ARC files?. Reading the files off the hard drive would suffice if I could find something to open them!

Thanks.
