We were talking this morning about things that people won't put together. My mum had a thing about never serving tomatoes or peas with fried or poached eggs and suggest fish and chips with baked beans and her withering scorn had to be heard to be believed, so we all grew up believing it; it came as a shock when we found others do. On the other hand she would quite happily dish up tripe and onions with chips.

Do other families have family taboos or strange combinations of their own, like that?

I didn't make that up... the worst meal I've ever had... my sister and I had to sit there until it was all gone... so long in fact, that the jelly re-solidified lol...
In terms of combinations....

Baked beans and mash are a big no no in my book.

But my mum always used to serve Casserole with peas and pasta. Pasta is great covered in gravy.
