We had a commercial dairy at the back of our house, and as a youngster I used to ''help'' the milkmen. Pint bottles came in crates of 12. Strangely, quarts came in crates of 12 too - far too big and heavy for me.

As an dairyman in the early 60's I remember the crates held 20 pints (two and a half gallons)
