Help! Not sure about doing my own bridal make up!!
Hi all, getting married next month & on a (tight budget!)
I was wondering if I should do my own make up on my wedding day but the the thing is I'll be having a bit of a tan using the Dove lotion so my face will be a different to my own foundation!!!
I know good quality make up to buy will be expensive but I want to have a tanned/bronzed look on the day & don't want shiny or a greasy face - want it to last all day too!!!
The make up trial I've made an appointment for next week is 20 at a salon and 20 again on the wedding day!!!!
I'm trying to save money as my hair is costing me a bit too but any advice if I should do my own make up & if so what affordable make up is good for my skin i.e. need something that DOES NOT clog my pores and oil free...
ANY ADVICE PLS - I'M STUCK!!!!!!

You know how they always chat - I said I was buying stuff for my sisters wedding. She said if I came in on the morning of the wedding they could do my make up for nothing for me - sadly wedding was in the back of beyond in Scotland or I may have taken her up on it! I think that was an estee lauder counter. Go in and ask them though and even if one says no then ask another one. Even if you have to agree to buy a lippy or something it'll still be cheaper then 40
Why don't you not bother with the Dove tan stuff. Use your normal foundation with a nice light bronzer to give the tanned look? that way you know you can do it yourself. Between now and then you can practice.
failing that then the department stores do not usually charge for the advice and help they give but on the day of the wedding they may be busy (if it is a saturday) so you might be advised to go in early and as beanmistress said if you buy the lippy for the it will be cheaper than a salon. As I am very very fussy about my make up I would not trust a stranger to apply it on my special day but would spend the next few weeks practicing and getting the look perfect. In fact that is exactly what I am doing as my son is getting married in a few weeks time and I am trying out lippy and eyes to go with the outfit.
Hope you have a wonderful wedding and congratulations.

Hello all - thanks for yor advice!
I've just got back from Debenhams Estee Lauder counter & they said the trial is free which I'll have tomorrow & on the day will be 15 or (buy a product for that amount).
Went into House of Fraser as well & all there counters charge 25 on the day and again free trial.
Well I'll see how I get on with Estee Lauder tomorrow - fingers crossed!!!!

Hello all!
Just back from having a trial make over but not with Estee Lauder but with Benefit. It was good but the eye shadow they used was a bit much even though it was a suttle colour, anyway wasn't impressed as the lady said at first I would'nt have to pay for the wedding make up on the day but today she hinted to buy the products she used on me & that she would have to ask her ariel manager for the price!
I think I'm going to end up doing my make up myself but don't know where to start!!!!

I booked a make-up run through with a lady who apparently specialised in wedding make -up for my wedding and ended up looking like co-co the clown. all the shades were wrong wrong wrong. I cancelled it and ended up doing it myself. I definately think you should invest in a good foundation though or better still, if you go to boots and ask if they can give you samples you can try at home you may not need to buy any at all.
Read about benefit in my nanny's magazine had a good write up was chatting to a couple of girlfriends who said much the same as you - claim one thing and do another.
But wondered if you have a college specialising in beauty as one of the mums at school had a girl from college who was studying beauty therapy do her make up for free on her wedding day. She gave the girl bottle of wine - she was happy and the girl was pleased as she got to have a model. Just a thought.
She looked stunning btw but the girl did do her make up a couple of time sthe week before.

I do my own make up every day and think I'm pretty good at it, but always need to refresh a bit at lunchtime. I had a professional do my make up on my wedding day and it beat my efforts hands down! Probably because of the sheer volume of different kinds of make up she had and the expense of it all, but she made me look amazing and it lasted all day without needing a single touch up. I was SO impressed! Just make sure you have a trial to ensure they do a look you like.
Thanks guys for your feedback!!! I'm just trying to search on the net for a suitable foundation for my type of skin which is prone to spots and and a bit oily so will need a good coverage but oil free.
To caththecrazy my local college does specialise in beauty but they are closed for the summer until early Sept & the wedding is the 22nd August!!!! Thanks anyway

Hi again, seeing your last post, Neutrogena do great foundation which is oil free. Find it in Boots or Lloyds pharmacy just on the shelves they do not have a make up counter but it is really good foundation. my daughter uses it and swears by it. Failing that any of the new minerals foundations are good for oily skin. I wish you every success with the make up and your wonderful wedding.
