Whats the best and most efficient way to get tight lean muscles at the gym....how important is your diet and is it the weight or the number or reps?

Diet is important, yes. Bodybuilders eat a diet heavy on protein (eggs, meat, etc) then starve themselves before a competition. If you're going for the lean look, it's just the usual though - low fat, fairly low carb. But don't forget, if you are working out regularly, you MUST eat - don't starve yourself.

You don't get lean muscles - you get a lean body through low body fat. If low body fat is most important to you, diet is 95% of it. If you want a better musculature then weights become slightly more important - but I wouldn't bother with high reps. Low reps heavy weight with some cardio sessions and a slight cal deficit will get you the body you want.
