The implausibly named Tin Can Lurky was a big favourite at my Cumbrian primary school. It sounds a bit like Kick the Can.
As I recall, it was basically a cross between hide and seek, tag / it and football: a winning combination.
My hazy recollection is as follows: I think someone was nominated as the seeker. Everyone else went off and hid.
The twist was that the seeker was also appointed the guardian of a tin can or football.
In order to win the game, the hiders had to leg it back to base and boot the can / ball, shouting "Tin Can Lurky!" as they did so.
The seeker had to prevent them from doing this by tagging them (not with a marker pen or an electronic device).
The odds were stacked against the seeker. What invariably happened was that everyone would run at the tin can at once, meaning that he was unable to catch them all.
The Cheesewire was also popular at my Suffolk comprehensive for a fortnight or so back in 1986, although this was more a form of torture than a game.
Happy days.
