I have a cat that keeps frequenting my garden in the evening and leaving me a 'special gift' shall we say! Does anyone have any idea of how to stop this from happening?

I sprinkle some crystals around called"Get Off my Garden".You can get them in D.I.Y shops or garden centres. They smell of eucalyptus which cats don't like. You have to reapply them after it rains though.Another trick I have heard of but never tried is to fill plastic bottles with water and leave them where they dig.Something about the light glancing off the bottles confuses them and they go elsewhere.
Tesco do an animal repelant spray, I'm trying this and lots of pepper, and watering the garden regularly - they don't seem as keen on the wet soil as they do dry. I've been doing this for the last 2/3 weeks and there's been a marked lack of catsh!t. Hopefully after a while they'll be accustomed to using their new toilet, and forget about my garden. I just wish cat owners were a bit more responsible in training their cats to use litter trays, instead of filling my garden with stinking piles of crap for either me or my children to inadvertantly pick up. Such lovely animals.

I bought mothballs to keep a neighbourhood cat from my front door, but my own cats don't seem to mind the smell of them,so maybe different cats respond differently to that smell.Mine definetely don't like the smell of olbas oil, which is mainly eucylyptus oil.You could try putting some in a container with a lid, with puncture holes above the level of the liquid.
cats and dogs hate the smell of oil of cloves which you can get from any where that sells aromatherpy oils, soak cotton wool buds and place in area cat is fouling or make up your own spray in a empty spray bottle and dilute with water make sure it smells nice and strong, keep spaying at regular intervals, also oil of cloves is great for stopping cats and dogs scratching furnitre and carpets, but a word of warning wear protective gloves as it will numb your fingers which is why its also great for toothache and pulling horses manes
