After meeting a girl from cambridge, i was seriously surprised by her... lets say, lack of 'common' knowledge. After going to uni and living all round the country 99% of people know what im on about, even if i dont say things the same as them. But this girl astounded me, first of all she didnt know what a 'chippy' was, then wasn't too sure what a 'butty' included, then even worse, thought 'telly' was just a made up word. there are a couple more example but i shant go on, the only shortened down word i think she knew was 'wellies'. Are there still people like that out there?

Could you carry a snack in your fannypack?
That's a Bum Bag ... yes ?
I agree Eurox. I am often totally stunned by how dim the youth of the day are in 'common' knowledge.
Is that what they call them in Brighton, JJ?

I `d never heard of a butty until I lived in the north for a while . We have dinner & tea. If you mean chippy as chip shop, that`s another word I`d never heard.
Well, I'm just guessing that it's the same thing, Stewey ...

A little bag that fastens round your waist, and rests round the back ... on your bum cheeks

... hence ... bum bag.

JJ x
butty, as in ... jam butty ??
Yes, we call those fannypacks. Supposedly, 'fanny' is a naughty word in England?
