Large hard lump
Hi
I have a black lab female she is nearly 11 years old now and has developed 2 lumps underneath her nipples one is quite big they have only appeared suddenly and I have an appointment to see a vet this evening but can't help but panic and wanted to know if anyone knows what it could be. She has never had a litter before (not sure if this makes a difference) and has never been ill before this! She isn't unwell at all and still has a big appetite and has been playing all day! We also have a 9 month puppy who I did notice a few days ago was trying to get milk from her I shouted at her and she hasn't done it since but could this have caused them at all?>

They can be removed, either just the lumps or what is called a mammary strip, where they take all of the mammary glands away, so preventing any further occurence. Any operation is traumatic, but this is quite common and as she is fit and well in all other respects she should be back with you in no time and live the rest of her life out without problems. Let us know how you get on.
