I can not find any reference to the word COUNTROL Chambers tick it as an accepted scrabble word but do not give a definition. Any help please

Chambers say "see control", so I assume it means the same.

The U in the word has to moved before placing in crossword which makes CONTROUL an archaic word meaning control. So I suppose it must be the same.
