Is there any message being given out when women wear ankle chains on thier left or right ankles

my dad said that years ago prostitues used to wear them, but he is rather old!

now things like that mean nothing!!

boobesque, my dad told me the same thing - and that I 'looked like a prostitute' when I got one when I was about 16 too! I never wore it again.

dmsjps - that is very very bad of your dad to say that to u at such a young age.  it is his problem not your's; i bet you looked lovely and you should wear it again!!!

my dad used to call me bad names every time i left the house at that age - and i'm still trying to overcome my problems!!!

Hey catanory, you've got one of those dads too! I must admit, I still always think about what he'd say when I put anything on, but now I'm grown up enough to be able to tell myself that it's OK or not. Sounds like you got all the same names I did, just for wearing anything above the knee or that might give even the slightest indication that you had boobs! Big baggy tops with high necks and loose-fitting long skirts were the 'nicest' thing to wear, weren't they?

And heels or boots made you look like a hooker, whereas trainers made you look scruffy/ like a boy.  What doo they want you to wear?  Loafers......at 16????

Oh yes Natalie, spot on! I remember going out in my mini skirt with a long skirt over the top and when I got to the bus stop, off would come the long skirt and into my bag, which meant I had to carry a big enough bag around, but hey, it was worth it!

 

And was it only dads who were like this? My mum was fine.

my mum said once when i tried to go out wearing a chain on the ankle that hookers wore those and it was not the done thing... so being a good girl i never ever wore one and still think of this when i see girls wearing them now.Must be an old fashioned thing.

yeh dmsjps, to be honest, it turned me into someone who defied everything he said from that age and did make me into a naughty lil girl!!  although now i know why i did it i don't feel guilty any more (serious problemo for most of my life!!!).  and now, he's too old and ill to tell him what he did to my head!

i should write a book on what i used to get up to... as a defiant teenager teehee

I wear mine on my left ankle.

There is no "hidden meaning" nowadays.  I wear mine cos it looks pretty!
