Have now spent 2 days ..... have got all clues except the last one - have the letters KCBOAAD but am blowed if I can find a melancholy hamlet. Do I need an Ordnance Survey map?? This is driving me nuts! Any assistance appreciated - maybe one of my letters is wrong.

next what kind of terrier? Highland, Airedale, Lakeland??? Any ideas gratefully accepted.

With one more letter it suggests "backroad"

The answer to the last clue is CreDiton so you have the wrong answers to the clues that gave you the D and one of the As. The second village is ChaGford and the aeronautical engineer is Frank WhiitLe giving the letters: K C B O A G L and D. Head north from Crediton and you should find the hamlet.
