In just one year 2007/2008 250,000 students from outside the EU came to Britain to study. The number each year is rising exponentially so it may attract up to 500,000 next year.

What is the % of students who return after they finish or drop out of their studies?

Assuming 80% decide to stay should they compete with British or EU students especially as many of the graduates will not be able to find work?

Should the overseas visa expire at the finish of their studies?

Where should the limit to stay be drawn if at all as there is no maximum at present?

At that rate your figure of half a million will not occur next year but in 10 years time.

Where do you get exponential from?

Their visas are study visas so do expire when then finish studying.

Its a well known fact that when a student's visa does expire there is no attempt to remove them. How do I know? Because I happened to work in a large establishment where people did abuse our system.

Also on the Border UK website they are not encouraged to leave. Maybe the UK benefits from this surplus but in current conditions its at the expense of British graduates hopelessly looking for work. If you don't think they should be given priority your thinking puts you up with the British peace protesters at Calais recently.

We turn a blind eye to students whose visas have expired unless they have committed some other offence. The Border Agency has not enough staff to check out all these illegals.

I am always amazed about these "well known facts". They're great aren't they they're so well known you don't have to provide any evidence for them!

The point of the matter is that you need a proper visa to work here not a student visa. People employing them are breaking the law - they are the villans of the piece not the Border authority.

Actually genuine foreign students support British Students.

They pay full fees and provide an important stream of revenue to Universities.

Should we not welcome that so many spend their money on services that this country offers. How many £millions for the country are generated by this industry? Would we sooner that France or Germany got their trade and money rather than Britain? Is it not also good that highly trained individuals are the result and that we can then make use of their skills in the Labour market if we want to?

The well known facts were substantiated by my link. I REPEAT unless the student with an expired visa has committed another offence no action is taken to remove him.
