Unfortunately, you'd most likely wind up killing your prized antique... Azaleas, at least her in the U.S. are nearly impossible to divide since they are a woody stemmed plant.
One thing you could try, however; If it's in a pot, try transplanting it to another larger pot. This sometimes results in the "mother" plant sendig up one or two new shoots away from the main plant. These can be seperated from the root system without damaging the host...
All in all, it's best just to enjoy your trii-decadeial masterpiece and buy it a housebuddy if you think it's lonely...
