Why is Britain still in Recession?
http://news.bbc.co.uk.../business/8331497.stm
It was announced today that the US has come out of recession. This is in addition to France, Germany and Japan who now have healthy economies.
Where have our politicians gone wrong?
The 'cash for clunkers' in the US and the 'scrappage scheme' elsewhere has dragged these countries from the brink but our fiscal stimulus have proved inadequate.
Have we placed too much emphasis on the banking industry and not enough on manufacturing?
Our economy is now below Italy!
Whose fault is it we are where we are? The Tories since Margaret Thathcher, New Labour policies or do we have to go back to pre-Thatcher?'

We were the last to go in you would expect us to be the last out. Especially as our economy has been so based on financial services.
Of course if Ozzy gets his hands on the reins he will slash public spending which means anyone relying on government work directly or indirectly will suddenly find themselves out of a job. Unemployment will rocket firms will fail and he'll say "not my fault Gov, I told you I was ready to be unpopular"

Yes even if Osborne held the purse strings his intended aim of not giving any fiscal stimulus is deeply worrying. He keeps on about giving tax credits to companies as if that would solve the problem. Someone should explain the recession is where consumers do not buy or produce enough goods not the bank balance sheets.
Why can't we learn from successful countries instead of being stuck in quicksand. Listening to our politicians most of them obviously have no idea how industry works.
If we had supported our basic industries in the past maybe we would have a thriving environment to do business. The one indusry we did support was BAE with its underhand deals with the Saudis. Once again in hoc to the Americans who have critisized the deals and so we got them investigated by ourselves. How crazy is this when every other country supports their own industries by subsidies etc.
Brown may be an economist by nature but it has failed to keep our people in jobs or the economy in balance.
Jno that was an interesting article. I believe many of the products such as white goods have been offered in some sort of scrappage scheme. Whether they were successful or not I'm not sure. I think the British public feel that the incentive has to be made by the government to be truly worthwhile.

Britain will continue to be in recession, debt, on it`s knees, call it what you want for many years, because of Tony Blair
Since he came to power the influx of immigrants, both legal and illegal into this country has got way out of hand
All the talk about immigrant workers being good for the economy etc has backfired to the extent of the NHS being at breaking point, the amount of benefits paid out to immigrants who come here and claim, schools are suffering, the prisons are bursting at the seams with immigrants, both legal and illegal
Anyone who dares speak out about this is branded a racist
New Labour.... Immigration Immigration Immigration
