A huge belated thanks to all those who responded with such kind words last week, when I was upset about my parents dog being put to sleep.

Know I don't know you, but was a comfort to see how much people care.

Been a tough week, parents barely holding it together, early days though, and Penny had been a major part of their lives for 15years, so you don't get over that in an instant

slinky I have a lovely dog I adopted last November but I still remember my little dog who died in April last year...

My little dog died 4 years ago and I still cry now and then. It's only now I've thought about getting another one but not sure I could go through losing another one. We are such softies for our animals! It will get better in time slinkycat, and all you can do is be there for your mum and dad. I know it's hard for you trying to be strong for them and I hope you'll be ok.

They capture your heart and then break it when they go, as rational adults, we know they can't live for ever, but
at that moment when you know that you can't let them go on, well you know what I mean

It's a tough love right enough slinky. But you have to do it to save them suffering. You will always miss Penny, but you have many fond memories of her. My love to your parents and to you. It will get better. I promise. Time is the great healer. xxx
