Anybody any tips for above. Just bought eye drops to go through the eyelids yesterday and used them last night but to no avail - maybe they are a little worse (eyelids). I have bought cucumber gel - I did not get much sleep much last night but then I never do. Thanks for any tips or what could I buy that is really great.

Try cucumber slices or drained cold teabags. Regarding sleep. Try reading a book first (not magazine) and make sure room is not too hot or cold. Make a list of things you have to do the next day rather than thinking about them just before bed. You will be suprised how much in control you will feel writing things down.
keep two teaspoons in fridge for a few hours then place over eyelids bliss!!!
Do you think you mighy have Blepharitis, with the mention of sore eyelids.....http://www.patient.co.uk/health/B
lepharitis.htm
I was told by a friend that he had suffered with Blepheritis & when he saw a specialist he was told that one of the things that can aggravate the condition is alcohol, he gave up alcohol altogether, that was 2 years ago & since then he's been fine, he only drinks soft drinks now. I would think it's worth a try.(as an extra benefit you'll probably find that it also increases the health of your wallet).

have been off the drink for 2 months now
I agree with the above that you may have some form of blepharitis which can be anterior or posterior. Anterior blepharitis is often associated with crusting or flaking along the lid margin with redness. Posterior blepharitis can be more subtle and can be associated with the blocking of small glands along the inner margin of the lid which secrete oils/mucus type structures into the tears which help keep the tears in a good consistency. Both can be associated with significant dry eye issues and there are many methods to treat it. This can include a variety of lid hygiene treatments whichcould be as simple as a warm compress with lid massage or the use of prescription medications.
My advice is to get a professional to look at your eyes as it is easier to treat or manage something when you know what it is.
I had a similar problem and a friend recommended something called 'artificial tears'. What I do is place them in my eyelids before I go to bed and wake up with my eyes feeling much better. I am sure you can get various types from any pharmacist. best of luck.
