Carpets!

My washing machine emptied itself all over my kitchen carpet two days ago! Am just managing to get the carpet dry but it smells stale, have overdosed it with fabreze but still no joy! Anyone have any ideas please???????

 baking soda, if you can spread the carpet out in a room where it will not be disturbed and sprinkle the baking soda on it and leave it for a day or two then vaccum up, also is there carpet pad under it? is so you may have to change the pad.
Claim a new carpet on your insurance.
Use it as an excuse to get rid of the thing, I think that carpet in the kitchen, like in the bathroom, is un-hygenic.

When this happened to my basement bedroom I hired a dehumidifier from a chain that supplies kit to builders: about �30 for a week. You seal all the windows and doors as much as possible, and leave it to run: it extract water from the air and the carpet. However this will be tricky if you keep using the kitchen while this is going on - kettles and so on adding water back into the air!

I agree wit the others: get rid of the carpet and replace either with floor tiles or lino.
