I ordered a new car a while ago and dealer took my details, name address and i paid a deposit. Car is now ready for collection and insurance was arranged not with dealer but independently. After a final telephone call today to confirm collection day the delaer asks my date of birth, I am just curious why now and did he actually require it and what for.

Is this standard practice, has anyone had this asked of them when buying a car?

The only thing I can think of, if the car is on HP he has forgotten to ask you when you made the agreement.
Or like I said in your other post. He can't let you drive it away if you were 16.
