Does a will have to be read and the wishes carried out by a solicitor?
Being an only child and the soul beneficiary to my mothers will and the fact there is only property to be left could I deal with this myself and just have the deeds signed over to me?

There is no such thing as a will being read. This comes from films.

Who is the executor? It is the executor who has the right to deal with the estate. If the exec is the solicitor, he may not wish to give his role up (since then he gets no fees). The exec will still need a Grant of Probate though in order to put the house in your name.

If you are the exec, you don't have to have a solicitor at all. You just fill the forms in for Probate and go for an interview at the probate registry. Once you have the Grant you can deal with all the assets yourself.

I am the the exec. the will and deeds are kept at the same solicitors ... so would I have to ask the solicitor for the will?
and where would I get the Probate form?

Yes, you simply ask the solicitor for the documents.

Contact your local probate registry - they are very often in the same building as the county court. There are a list of addresses here www.courtservice.gov.uk.
