My grandad was a coalman and my grandma was a hospital cleaner...
My mum worked in a factory and my dad was a salesman.......they all struggled to provide for their kids and lived in council accommodation.
My sister, brother, and I all had chances provided through the grammar school system and we've all had reasonable jobs, and all own our own homes.
All of our children have been university educated and include a doctor, a teacher, and a company director......so after 4 generations I think we've done quite well.

I wanted to be an airline pilot when I was ickle but colour-blindness ruled that out.
Went through a stream of revolting jobs until I decided to make something of my musical abilities and thats what I've been doing for the last 10 years - love it.
I'm not rich (usually), but "rich" to me isn't necessarily about money -it's about personal fulfillment and happiness, I'm more or less 'there'.
I've got a roof over my head, beer, a car, friends and family -that'll do me :-)

I never dreamt of riches & a flash lifestyle - more than anything I wanted to be happy, have children and be pretty content with life.
I am happy, have wonderful children and am content - the one thing that has surprised me is what sh1te I've had to go through to get here. But a lot of that has been down to my impulsiveness, & my unwillingness to accept a less than satisfactory life. I've gone through stuff I wish I hadn't had to - but don't have too many regrets & I've come out the other end still smiling, so it was worth it.
My only professional ambition was to be a writer. Mmmm - I write enough on this site; mostly cr@p, but I hope it's entertaining cr@p. The job I have ended up in pays a decent wage & I find interesting, but I should have aimed higher.
All in all - I am contented with how my life has ended up. Riches? A few more of them would be welcome, but it's not the be all & end all, and health is far more important. And love.

I don't think I've ever yearned to be mega rich. There were lean times while bringing the children up, but I was content to just do a couple of hours work & be there at home for them after school finished. Now they are grown up, one has a mortgage & the other his own car & is considering emigrating!! ( dropped that one on us couple of days ago! ) :0) I always wanted to own my own house & I'm on my way to achieving that, four moree years and it's paid for. I'm not scrimping for money, meet my bills, go out for the odd meal, live comfortably. It's not all about money. Are we happy in ourselves?
Wanted to play Pro hockey - no
Wanted to fly fast jets - no
Wanted to be a loose living lothario - no met Mrs Slapshot too soon
Wanted to earn loads and retire by the time I'm 45 - possible: need the intervention of camelot at this stage!!
BUT, after all the crap Mrs Slapshot and I have been through in the last 22 years, I can't complain, two healthy kids, just about enough to get by on, good job that still has a good pension attached, nice place to live, a few really good friends, what more do you really need.

I am retired and probably more content in some ways at 63 than I ever have been. I have led an interesting life, had some good jobs, have travelled, renovated a house with my husband (not using builders!). Have always been somewhat short of money but have not aspired to material things very much, so have had enough to lead the sort of life I wanted and to educate my son.
Have never, ever held any real career ambitions and have never ever hankered after being rich and successful or famous in any way. I need money to have a roof over my head, to eat well, be warm, be mobile and travel occcasionally. If I had any more it certainly wouldn't make me happier.
Some of the happiest people that I know have lived all their lives in the same place and done, what some would call 'nothing' with their lives. But they are content and that is what life is about.
I certainly don't miss being out in the working world. It is just wonderful being able to do what I want when I want to do it and not being under any pressure!
Good luck to you. I hope your health continues to improve.
