is there a legal requirement for the number of driving lessons a person must take before they can apply for a driving test?

I suppose if they do that then out goes with family members teaching you....might not be a bad thing.

No, I did my driving test last year (and passed yay!), you aren't required to have a certain amount of lessons. Just as mcfluff says you need to pass your theory test first.
I think they are looking at bringing in a requirement for a number of lessons and having to drive in all seasons at some point in the future which I think would be beneficial as I struggled in the ice and snow last month!
