My husband and I are off to South Africa in February for a tour. We are going to Joburg, Cape town Kruger Durban and the garden route and want to know if its the norm to wear shorts on such a trip or would it be better to wear thin long trousers. We are mainly concerned about insects etc
thanks in anticipation
Long loose cotton trousers are a good idea. You can wear shorts on safari but I would advise you to opt for trousers. If you are staying overnight in Kruger, at one of the lodges, you will probably discover all sorts of creepy crawlies in your unit so, again, cover up. Remember to take your malaria pills before you go, whilst you are there, and after your return. Have a great time. South Africa is wonderful.
Geez, that's a heck of a distance. Mrs BM and I took three weeks to do just Cape Town and the Garden Route.
In those parts, insects were not an issue. We wore cotton trousers most of the time.
Mr P wore shorts every day, I chose to wear long linen trousers. Cool and comfy. We've never bothered about malaria tablets for the Garden Route but you may well need them up in the north near Swaziland.
