MM Links Solutions January 2010 [Week 4]

The Regal Roslyn (aka roslyn251254) ended her reign in fine form to produce a “game of two halves”, since (with almost 40 players) the lion’s share of points went to the first 20 or so entrants. Under the theme, “DIY” her chosen links were:

RICE Paper
GREASE Paint
Drill SERGEANT
LOFT Ladder

With an efficiency that would put most of us to shame, RR seems to revel in hard work and creative challenge. I would like to be the first to offer myself for adoption (my garden could do with the “roslyn touch”, which she bestows upon her children without reservation).

With four such non-trivial links, you would expect them to pose somewhat of a challenge to the “Shrubbery Squad” ~ but not so! All four Link Words were spotted within the first four entrants and they fell during the first minute of active playing time. Starting with the indefatigable seekeerz, who knows too well “the roar of the GREASE PAINT and the smell of the crowd”, her effort was well worth TWO POINTS!

She was immediately followed by the Car Boot Queen, evsajo, with her RICE PAPER and LOFT LADDER for FOUR POINTS. This will be the second time this month that evsajo has produced a double whammy! When you meet her, you’ll realise that this is a case of lightning striking in the same place twice!! Since no one was able to surpass this achievement, I am obliged to nominate her (again) as HOT SHOT OF THE WEEK!

The fourth entrant was lysander who brought DRILL SERGEANT to the table and the last link fell for TWO POINTS. However, this opened a window of opportunity and several entrants took full advantage of this; including gen2, Dinkypuzzled, joto, fordward, cliffyg & Strix ~ each picking up Two Points. Nevertheless, even these were eclipsed by beejay & centrino who each picked up Four Points for Grease Paint AND Drill Sergeant. Well done to you both!

Thereafter, the points began to dry up as singles were scored here and there. However, special mention should be made of newcomer, rockfordill, who registered Two Hits and other newcomer, kawakiri, who managed One Hit! Each brings their monthly total to a very respectable Three Points. Whilst on the subject of newcomers, let me welcome barb7771. You don’t HAVE to be crazy to play this game, but it seems to help!

This Table (above) is awash with MM ex-champions, but one name stands out as a worthy successor ~ and that is centrino, who I hereby invite to accept the crown of MM Linkland throughout the month of February and set each new set of Linkwords.
