This isn't some racist attack by mwah!
Surely the school is right and you cannot possibly take a knife into school!!! Even if he didnt use it someone else could! and how many kids would try and emulate a sikh just so they can bring knives into school!
one set of rules for everyone and NO compromise....?

Personally, I can't see many kids wishing to emulate a Sikh (wearing turbans etc) so that they can carry a knife underneath their clothing (and the minute it is exposed is the minute you realise that they are not a Sikh).
If this does become an issue, then fair enough, and in some inner city schools, I concede that it may be an issue - but in the majority of cases, I can't see it as a problem.
Do you get worried when you see a turban that the man wearing it has a knife on him?

Its not necessarily the knife that just is the symbol for which i am angry. My point is that as soon as you allow a small section of society to do something that others can't then surely that will just breed resentment? one set of rules to create a place of work/study that is easy to understand as everyone is treated the same!
I don't believe that there is resentment against Sikhs - and they have had the exemption to edged weapons as well as the exemption to wear crash helmets on scooters for years.
Do you think that there is resentment against disabled people as they can park anywhere (within certain parameters)?
There will always be 'other people' who can do things that you cannot - what better place to learn that than in school.

agree with my brother Vic in this regard as unless someone misuses Kirpan then there would be a debate about it. If they carry it as a symbol then I have no problem. The thing is that if you do want to be aggressive or want to kill someone then believe me you do not want a Kirpan or knife. You would do that by other means in his case by hitting someone in the head by a chair as there must be chairs in the court.
