"Because the car has been off the battery for so long"
im sorry but you are being strung along here. What a complete load of BS. ANY even minor garage would have a boost pack and even the most of knackered batterys charged, jumped or even replaced. 7 Weeks!!!! To me it sounds more like they have done something else and are now trying to "BUY" time to sort it out. I would go there tomoz morning and demand to see the manager and find out whats happening. If you know ANYONE else in the motor trade that knows about engines try and take them along with you, that way they will not try and talk technicall. Good luck and please let us know

There are a few things here, Fuel, is it picking up fuel, have they got the timing out in-turn valves hitting the pistons, regards the battery, as them is it made of chocolate! they are taking the PSS Lou4, when & if you get the car back make sure that you get a warranty for the work done, & make sure it's in writing I can smell a rat here! have you taken it to an agent?
