Here are a few cynical observations from The Guardian ...

(to show that I do have a sense of humour !)

Bobsleigh

They do tip over, and sliding sideways down the track, smacking your head on the ice, is an "acquired" idea of fun.

Skeleton

Dignitas is surely an easier option.

Alpine Skiing

We don't know any of the competitors, and we haven't a prayer of winning.

Ski Jumping

Jeax Sans Frontieres on snow, with Team GB as comedy extras.

Figure Skating

There is something absurd about an Olympic event in which half the marks are awarded for "artistic impression".

Curling

The winter equivalent of lawn bowls.

Ice Hockey

Quite the most pointless sport ever to be televised. It's impossible to see the puck, unless it is shown in slow motion.

Nordic (Cross Country) Sking

You probably have to be born near the Arctic Circle to really get the point.

Speed Skating

The sole competitors are huge Dutch men - and women - who have honed their skills on frozen dykes.

Snowboarding and Moguls

A bunch of grungy dudes performing tricks to a heavy metal soundtrack. You won't have a clue what's going on, and the commentary ("that's a rad 720, totally awesome") won't help much.

Tried to do a bet Yesterday at William Hill and Bet Fred on Lindsey Vonn winning 5 Medals in the Alpine events but would not accept my bet.
They will accept 5 individual Bets on her winning a Medal at various Odds, but to make any decent money her Odds of winning would have to be more favourable than what they offer. She is Odds-On or Evens in some events so not really worth it JJ.

We once got free tickets to ice hockey, and I have to say even though i initially grumbled about going, I loved it. It was very bloodthirsty and wonderfully brutal- it was ace!

B00, reminds me I once saw a rugby match between two villages in Fiji. Only lasted five minutes or so before they started beating all hell out of each other and the ref called it off. Very instructive.

B00, many years ago, i checked a guy and broke both his collarbones at the same time, it was just a nice, clean, skillfully applied hit, think i broke my knuckle on his team mate who took exception to the hit..... i'm a very clean player but the game should be hard and physical , boring otherwise!!
