Therefore the one who was wronged could get divorced with no "penalties". My friend is seeing a JW who says he is married "in name only"....(blah, blah, blah....!!!!) but...he says he can't get divorced as he would be disowned by his family and the church (blah, blah, blah...) hmmm i am not convinced. sounds like an excuse to me...
(please don't judge my mate - she's not the sort who could have ever imagined herself fallling for a married man)

yup he is still living with his missus....i am VERY suspicious...she can't ring him there etc...if it's a marriage in name only there should be no prob right?
I was just wanting to find out if the story of JW getting diswoned in a divorce is true...then I can MAYBE (not sure yet) tell her that if he is lying about that then he may be lying about other stuff too....or maybe I oughta stay out of it? Just don't want to see her hurt.

On the same topic, though sightly off-subject, it is not only religious fundamentalists who knock on your door, but other fanatics as well.
I had two people on the doorstep the other day who wanted to know what type of bread I ate. I told them I didn't eat much bread, at the most two or three slices of white toasted per day. I was then subjected to an half-hour harangue, complete with 'scientific quotations ', as to why I was utterly wrong in eating white bread and in the interests of my own well-being should immediately change to brown. It took me ages to get rid of them.
Bloody Hovis Witnesses!

On a more serious note (and I wish now I hadn't posted the joke above as I realise the trade name ' Hovis ' may be unfamiliar to those outside the UK), whenever I see the Jehovah's Witnesses going about their business I feel a great sense of sadness. I used to think that the sight of a smartly dressed adult turning up on the doorstep with two smartly dressed children was a cynical ploy, as only the most ignorant or cold-hearted of people would shut the door in their face. Unfortunately nothing I have seen in recent years has persuaded me to change my mind.
I remember 28 years ago, when I was teaching, I had a JW child in my class. When it came to the year Xmas party I received a note from the mother that on no account was her daughter to attend. As I took my class to the school hall for the festivities, there was the poor girl sat outside the Headmaster's office reading a book, and sat there for the next two hours, listening to what was going on but unable to participate. I found that I couldn't enjoy the party and went home feeling thoroughly miserable.
I could go on but it's late (early?).
