naomi Your question on unemployment benefits in Germany are 80% of the wage of your last job for one year and 50% thereafter , with no time limit . Their government is now trying to limit it but they have a proportional voting system which results in a multi party coalition and its almost impossible to enact any controversial proposals. The East German parties, as an example, always vote down any restriction on benefits.
Maybe someone could tell me how it is possible for a very fit man I know who has been on benefits for the past 20 years and has now started to draw his state retirement pension.
I should have mentioned he always has the latest model car , has paid off the morgage on a very nice house and enjoys holidays abroad.
