Hi,

Someone has told me thay if you are from the EU you don't have to pay for a tourist visa. Does anyone know if this is correct?

Thanks,

The eVisitor allows visitors to travel to Australia for business or tourism purposes for up to three (3) months. It is available to passport holders from the European Union and a number of other European countries. There is no visa application charge or service charge for eVisitors.

You do have to pay.
when I went a little while back travel agent did it on line but you do have to pay
OK. I stand corrected. It is obvious that the Australian Government is lying when it says NO CHARGE.
What did a previously write about avoiding non-Government websites.

I could charge you £30 to enter a free visa application if you want me to.
If Gill Charlton and ABerrant and the Australian government all say there's no charge, there's no charge.

That's, like, free. Gratis.
This line is from ABerrant's link to (the only correct & legal) Australian Government's Visa Website:~

How much will an eVisitor cost?
eVisitor applications are free, there is no application charge or service fee.

ANY other such sites expecting payment for such a visa are totally illegal in charging fori it,and are not official in ANY way!

As ABerrant says,we could all make a nice income out of charging (say) £30.00 for a FREE visa couldn't we?
<<ANY other such sites expecting payment for such a visa are totally illegal in charging fori it,and are not official in ANY way! >>

No they are not illegal - they are providing a service for you. Admittedly ripping you off in the process.

Agree they should be avoided

This form of visa is relatively new - at one time the Australian government DID charge for it - so those who have said there is a charge may just be out of date. And (some) non-EU citizens are still charged
As dzug correctly says - they DID used to charge, for something called the ETA (Electronic Travel Authority), this preceded the new eVisitor system. As I remember, it cost around £20 per person from Australia House or via your travel agent.

When I traveled in 2000, 2004 and 2007 (all family weddings out there!) we had to have the ETA.
The eVisitor is FREE. Don't go to any dodgy site that charges.
