Our JR , now 13yrs, has started to develop scabs/sores on her belly and also her fur. We are buying an expensive shampoo via the vet, and though this initially showed some results , the problem is starting to get worse . Millie has always been spotlessly clean and she continues to look after herself. she is starting to show her age and is now taking tablets for rheumatism. Any suggestions for a home made potion we can try, please?. ta

Did the vet take scrapings to check if there were any mites causing the skin condition? If it is an irritation purely on the abdomen it could be caused by contact with an irritant on carpets or floor (bleach or shake n vac type irritants) Is the area itchy, if so then a hydrocortisone cream would help which you can pick up from the chemist but cannot be used long term as it has steroids in it and will cause thinning of the skin. There are too many causes to think of and these things can get worse if left untreated, if you notice smelly discharge or weeping then it may be infected and antibiotics will be required from the vet.
My JR recently had fleas which caused a flea allergy. She rubbed all the fur off her belly and left this raw and sore. She needed antibiotics for the infections caused and steroids , iT cleared up within 2 weeks and the fur has now re grown. Spent ages de fleaing her bed , carpets and everything to prevent re infestation.Have you looked closely in the coat for fleas, they seem to be able to survive shampooing.Good luck
For the rheumatism and old age I have just discovered marine phytoplankton. My old red setter is ancient and was almost unable to stand. After a week he is like a different animal and ven took himself for a walk amazing.
Apparently it contains lots of trace elements and nutrients and is 100% organic.
Cost £20 for 90 capsules one a day.
