We have all seen the t.v. ad, get your 30.000 per year career off the ground, become a driving instructor, I have looked into this, it costs around 2.500 to complete the course only if you have less than 3.5 penalty points, does anybody know of someone who has made a success of this, it sounds too good to be true, they even say they guarantee you a placement in a driving school on completion of training but do not say in which town or city, I am 49 years old and work in heavy industry and am really interested in a career change like this, can anybody advise me on it please.

I looked into this a year or so ago...my understanding of how it works is......
You pay to get qualified...then put you in a franchise in your home town or very near to it.
I think then.....you can either advertise yourself to generate clients or you can pay them (the driving school) a %age of your hourly rate or a flat fee for a referral to you for a lesson!!
I have a few clients who are driving instructors and some earn over 30k some less. It depends on how much money you want to earn and how many hours you want to put in.
There are quite a few driving schools out there that seem to offer training - my friend used just instructor training (http://www.justinstructortraining.co.uk/) and was pretty happy with them.
