I think its rather racist that you tar the whole travelling community with the same brush,
I am 17 and i am a Romani Gypsy,... i have travelled all my life. The C4 Programme was also wrong in many respects.
1. The irish travellers may not mix with "country people" as they call you, or "Gorjees" as we say, but i have always had Gorjee friends.
2. I Have been to 25 different schools and got good GCSE's.
3. My family are self employed but pay National Insurance and Tax.
4. If we stop somewhere for longer than 2 days we pay council tax.
5. Our Trucks are taxed and insured and we have licenses.
6. We earn our Money legitimately.
As for the big Weddings, this tends to be because it is seens as a girls coming of age, girls dont have any freedom until they are married and have a responsible partner.
There is good and bad in all communities, you shouldnt tar us all with the same brush,.... if the same comments had been made followed by the word "Packistani" this question would have been removed.
