I have just been reading over in another category why aircraft have "headlights" but the one thing I
have always wanted to know is why do pilots dim the cabin lights when landing at night yet as soon as the aircraft is down they turn them on full again ?

Same as why you're not allowed to have the lights on in a car

Sorry to disagree ummm but having interior lights on in a car disrupts what you can see through the windscreen but of course on a plane the pilot is in a totally separate area cut off from the passenger cabin.
Ok...so it makes people stay in their seat.

Que! - how do you work that out?
Clanad....an ABer is a retired pilot.....try him.
Question Author
Yooooo Hooooo Clanad are you here today?
Clanad lives in America so probably wont be on till later.
Apparently it's so everyone's eyes can get used to lower lighting in the event of an emergency on landing when it's dark outside and so that emergency lighting to exits etc would show up better

Thanks Vulcan42 I wont hold my breath for an answer then..

Thank you prudie, now that makes sense.
Also it's not the pilots who do it - they don't control the cabin lights.

It's the cabin crew who do it.
