First open the sound mixer panel and check sliders are turned up enough. Especially check the Wave and CDPlayer entries.

How do I open this Al?
Hi
There should be a volume logo in the system tray .. If there is, double click to open the panel, then look for the wave and cd player sliders. Jack them up and try 1/8th from the top. There may be a special settings logo for Dell. Click on that and look for Sound adjustments. If there is nothing, open Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices/Audio tab and check the box "place volume...in taskbar" then look again.
Come back if still problem!
on windows7 double clicking the speaker doesn't open the mixer, either click on it once and then click on the word mixer at the bottom of the slider that opens or right click on it and select open volume mixer.

I clicked on the loudspeaker volume, bottom right on my screen. Opened volume mixer. Made Device Speakers and Applications System Sounds as loud as possible and then clicked on the red X. Tried it out with Youtube and a BBC programme called Outnumbered and volume still very low. I am not technical so if there is something else i can try, I need to know in an easy way of doing it ! thanks all.
