Me and the Mormons
23 Answers
Tonight , whilst walking to my good friend Jeffs with a tub of Co-op vanilla ice cream, I was accosted by two very polite boys of the Mormon persuasion who inquired if I "Loved Jesus". I said I did because of the two Bank Holidays he has given us. They laughed guardedly and then proceeded to tell me that God's prophet on Earth had spoken to them that night. I inquired if God's Prophet was in town, they again laughed guardedly and informed me that they had watched God's Prophet on a video link and he had given them an Easter message to tell the world. Well, this had obviously fired the boys up as there they were a'preachin to passers by such as myself with all the soul in their souls. Apparently God's Prophet nowadays is some (rich) bloke in America. They appeared surprised that I didn't really believe that. They told me why they believed it...... it was because they prayed one day and the realisation that this guy (I can't remember his name), was God's Prophet on Earth and that they should follow him.
I suggested to them that they believed this because they had had this suggested to them before they prayed and that their search for the answer succeeded because of the placebo effect of being told that spiritual enlightenment would be forthcoming. They believed they would find the answer and then they did, they appeared normal apart from their beliefs, was their experience a placebo effect?
