I've tracked her to Jersey City, Hudson County New Jersey, she left Stockton Heath Cheshire in 1904 and arrived at her eldest sisters place in New Jersey. (Actually her eldest sister (by 21 years) was probably her natural mum) I've found her coming back to Cheshire for a year and then going back again and livibng at her sisters in 1910, then in 1920 and 1930 on the census she is married, but i can't find the marriage, not really clued up on US marriage registrations, nor can I find her in the US SSDI, or her sister come to that. Does anyone know where i should be looking, I've switched to ancestry.com to get the right records but not finding her.

Ahhh, found out how to go about this one, all research into the New Jersey records have to be done in person and I've located the right town, right building, right records, right reel of microfilm , just need someone to go look at it for me now!

Oh and I now know that the SSDI only covers deaths from 1962 even though the system started in the 1930s.

I've used the rootsweb forum and they reply pretty quickly and there are a few users from across the pond that will do reciprical research and so fingers crossed!

and I've just emailed the archive office in New Jersey with a list of precise research requirements and an estimated research time asking for a quote, lol, hope they get in work later and sort it out pretty damn quick!!!

OMG how efficient are those people!!! They've emailed me back at 1.40 our time, they've sent the extracted info from lily and james's marriage, Lily's brother in laws death record, his will information and next o kin and who he let his possessions to. plus his grave number in Jersey City cemetary!! They've not charged me anything and say if i want a copy of the brother-in-laws will it will be $13. including postage.
I have to say I am very very impressed!
