if i were to marry my fiance would i be responsible for his previous debt which i obviously know about ?? im a bit confused sorry even tho we are trying to pay as much as we can off it ??
also the government has written to him to say he owes them something like 50 pound from 1995 when he claimed on benefits he cant remember doing this but is unsure .....we are going to pay it just to get them off his back for the sake of 50 quid but i did hear a rumour that after so many years you didnt have to pay things like that as they shud of wrote to him before and not left it so late like 15 years lol
yes they are all in his name of course but if we were too marry i thought when you are married everything is shared and are responsible for everything ??
No....he signed the contract not you. If you have a house together they could try and put a charge on the house. They will receive their money when you sell.....but only from his share of the equity. If you are still together at that point I suppose it will effect you.
hi, you will not be responsible for his debts, however, you will create a financial association with him for credit checking purposes, which might make it more difficult for you to get credit.
The government never write off debts, because they will just take it back from and money they give you in future (ie child benefit, jsa, pension etc)
the debts are his as he signed the agreement, you are very kind to help pay them off, even though you love him lots, he should really take responsibility for his own debts.
but, i must admit, i do not know anything about his situation when he got into debt so i shouldn't really comment.
just tell him, he is a very lucky man, and to make sure he never takes you for granted, you sound a star.
