Reverse Seasonal Affective Disorder
I genuinely get depressed in the summer but come alive once the winter weather is on its way - I've read online that this is now recognised as reverse seasonal affective disorder - is there anyone else out there who is a fellow sufferer?

Hi there. It does sound like you have summer SAD (often mistakenly called reverse SAD). I understand how hard it is during the summer as I have summer SAD--winter and fall weather, cool, and darker, make me come alive, it's amazing. A very interesting question, queries; I must say nothing brightens me up better than a warm, sunny day, they really bring a spring in my step even though I might feel a bit down due to problems and worries... However, I do like winter as this is a time I don't HAVE TO be in the garden cleaning it up and I can catch up on quite a lot of reading. Quite honestly, it's like going into hibernation mode with just the basic activities going on! It would be interesting to know what it is about summer that you don't like????
You're not alone, there was an article about it last yr in The Times

I dislike summer because there's no escape from the heat when it's at it's worst (unless you're lucky enough to have air conditioning). Also the daylight just drags on and on until late into the evening , whereas there is something comforting when it becomes dark at teatime.
So I do look forward to winter, and there are no better days than those in winter, early spring and late autumn just after sunrise when it's really cold and there's not a cloud in the blue sky.

seasonal affective disorder is not about how the conditions of summer or winter afftect you!

Whow - loads of responses! Just the fact that the sun is out can make me feel depressed - and yes, genuine depression, not just fed up as such. And also, I'm part Italian so that makes the whole thing unusual. If I could afford to I would definitely emigrate - northern Russia or somewhere where its dark and cold. Hope you all have a sunny weekend!!!!!
