I would like to get my upper ear pierced, but i've heard that if you get it done in a certain ear, its symbolic of being gay (in London anyway). Anyone know which ear it is?

I'd had those chains for years and never heard such a thing, and I never have about ear piercing either. I reckon go ahead and get whatever you want pierced and don't worry about what others might read into it. If you're confident in your sexuality, whatever that may be, you shouldn't care.
Same thing when I was at school. If you had just the right ear pierced it was supposed to be 'gay'. The left ear on it's own was fine. You could also have the left ear pierced twice and the right ear once and not be called 'gay'.
Of course you realise as you get older that this is all complete cr*p....but if you are young and feel the need to fit in with the crown....go for the left.

It's not a London thing (not amongst adults anyway).
I can honestly say that London is only place in the world I have ever lived in that no-one cares what you've got pierced. I know straight men with their right ear or both ears pierced & gay men with just their left ear pierced. nicola_red is dead right - if you're choosing to express your individuality through piercings (as well as clothes, tattoos, etc) then it simply means what you want it to mean.
