Ive got an interview lined up working in an off licence. They have a website but it doesnt tell you much except the events they hold and which items you can buy from the site. I know which questions not to ask which are:

hours,
pay

but its which questions would I ask, could i ask which kind of customer they are focused towards ?

thanks

Why would you not ask about hours or pay? Interviews are a way for both parties to find out whether they are suited to oneanother. You could ask how long the business has been established, how they are doing in the current economic situation, what opportunities there are for promotion.
its a big no no to ask about pay, if you get the job thats when pay should be finalised if you dont know it already. Maybe ask what they sell the most off, when established, how many people you would be working with, when would the job vacancy start and when would you know the outcome of the interview
and good luck!! :-)
I don't see any harm in asking about the pay that's likely to be offered, if it's not specified in the job advert. You don't want to sound as if you're only there for the money, though! You could ask what training they will give you about the products they sell, do a bit of research about licensing laws and selling to under-18s so they can see you have done some homework.
Ask if there would be prospects for promotion to management in the future.
already said that handbaglady.
not sure your last statement has any point really, at least not one that would concern you...they sell alcohol to whoever wants to buy it...they focus on everyone, but obviously on certain groups if there are particular occasions going on, such as perhaps the world cup will be aimed mainly at lager and men i assume, so offers an gieaways will reflect that...but really its generally just whatver and whoever

you could ask if they do instore promotions much...you know like taster sessions to promote a new drink, with balloons, banners and t-shirts etc

i dont see any harm in asking about hours..you could ask about when rather than how many

If you already have some holidays booked, ask them if they will honour them. Does the company have a pension fund? How many people would I be working alongside? How much holiday am I entitled to? Staff training, that sort of thing.
I wouldn't wait to be asked the questions about your understanding of the licensing laws, i would research that before hand and go with the info, also info on age restrcited products and the regulations.
It's an off license and so you will need to be accurate but fast paced at the till, you could ask about best selling lines, which are the most profitable lines, that would show you are commercially focused.
You could ask about shift patterns and always be clear on how flexible you are but don't say you can work every night if you can't.

Ive already got retail experience so am aware of the laws etc, experience of working on a till etc(think maybe i should have put this in the original question)

Im just wary of asking about pay as i dont want to come across asbeing there just for the money as im not. Could i ask something like "what hours would be on offer or shift patterns". Thanks dothawkes31 id thoguht about asking the top ten sellers. Regarding holidays ive not got any booked but i was going to say soemthing like "ive no holidays booked yet and nothing to be booked for at least a few months but you would be the first to know ". Thanks joko im not sure what i was thinking when i wrote the last statement but thanks for telling me

thanks for the replies peeps, ill report back when and if i hear anything
joko, believe it or not an off license does not just sell alcohol to whoever wants to buy it!

The products stocked in different shops and prices depends on where the shop is based, as well as the area around the shop and the local people. Well it was with us anyway!
Ok re phrase that, it does just sell to whoever wants to buy it, but they are focused on different areas and products and so on.

Question Author
