how do they get the hole through the needle, i was told it was done using a method with sand. thank you

the needle is drawn out llike wire from a larger tube. Much as people make seaside rock.

its actually done using a process called electric rolled welding or erw. Needles start out life as flat sheets of metal and are cut into strips then rolled around a former before being welded at the seem. They are then sand blasted to condition the weld before being cut and sharpened!
